Meet The Member – Richard Fisk

What was your lifestyle/motivation like prior to joining the gym?
A: Before joining the gym I spent a lot of time (12 years) as a volunteer grassroots football coach. I coached children from the age of four through to U17’s using the coerver coaching philosophy.

Once my son was old enough to play for the men’s first team, I decided to hang up my boots and focus on me for a change.

What were your initial goals when you first joined the Edge and have you achieved them?
A: My initial goals when I joined the gym were to get fit and lose weight.

However, The Edge has become an important part of my life over the last couple of years and has really helped me gain focus and battle my way back from depression.

A big thank you to all of the staff and members for making every session really enjoyable, friendly and fun to attend. The camaraderie is brilliant!
I can’t say that I’ve lost weight, but I’m certainly a lot fitter than I was, and I’m really enjoying my time at the gym.

What have been the main motivating factors that kept you on track towards achieving your goals?
A: The main motivating factor for myself is my mental health, being a happier, more positive, and mentally strong guy for my family, friends and myself.

Which programmes or classes do you enjoy the most and why?
A: Conditioning sessions every time for me! I love to push myself to the limit.

Monday and Wednesday nights are my favourite. I love the feeling afterwards when I‘ve survived.

Why the Edge?
A: The people! Everybody is friendly and has time for one another. It’s an amazing place to workout. #gymfam

Quick fire questions:

Favourite film?
A: Avengers Endgame (anything Marvel).

Favourite food?
A: Tapas.

What’s your go-to cheat meal?
A: Pizza.

Which trainer would you most like to strangle?
A: That’s got to be Kieran, just to get my own back from the many sports massages/pain he’s dished out over the years.

Who’s the worst training partner and why?
A: Probably me! Old, fat, balding and sweats a lot. Sorry guys/girls!

On a serious note, everybody at the gym is brilliant and works to the max.

For pain I suppose Adam, Mike H & C, Hatto and TC push you to your limits.
