I’ve always had a passion for playing sports, but my particular passion is Rugby League. I have played at every age group – from U11 to Open Age – for a variety of local amateur clubs. I represented my college at rugby, albeit on the ‘dark side’ (Rugby Union).
It is through this passion for sport that I developed an interest in the preparation required to play sport to the best of an individual’s ability – correct diet, supplements, specialised strength and conditioning regimes, and periodisation of training schedules. After leaving school, I decided that this would be my area of study.
I left college with Distinction star in all aspects of BTEC Sport Level 3 extended. I had the option to continue my studies at University, but opted for work-based training at The Edge EPT so I could develop my skills and knowledge in a practical environment.
My professional development is an ongoing process. I am working towards full accreditation with the UKSCA. I have achieved Level 1 with British Weightlifting and will continue to work towards higher levels. I am qualified with the IRB for Level 1 and 2 Strength and Conditioning. I am also currently developing my skills as a remedial masseur, having qualified in relaxation massage. My skill base and understanding of the needs of a variety of athletes has improved massively during my time here.
I have been very fortunate to work with some elite athletes from a wide range of sports during my time at The Edge EPT. These include international rugby players and footballers, professional boxers, track athletes, competition weight lifters and Strong Man competitors.
I enjoy working with elite sportsmen and women because they represent the pinnacle of my chosen profession and challenge my skills on a personal level. However, I also take great pleasure in supporting and encouraging our ‘regular’ gym members to achieve their individual goals.
